Overcoming Fuel Usability with Marine Fleet Management Solution

marine-fuel-management-system

Introduction

The global marine fuel optimization market is one of the fastest-growing which is owing to the increase in the marine sector by providing an accurate amount of fuel oil consumption for a particular vessel.

The marine industry works on various factors such as different government rules and regulations to curb the carbon emission at the sea level which in turn reduces fuel usage and improves operational efficiency.

As we all know the fact: Fuel theft is everywhere!!.

As compared to the transportation industry the detection of fuel theft in the shipping industry has more challenges and difficulties. The daily consumption of fuel in shipping is immense and it becomes very difficult to track the actual fuel level and fuel consumption as the ships/barges keep moving in the ocean.

Challenge: Hardware Part Installation

  1. A bulk carrier has 3-4 fuel tanks, each with a primary tank linked to main engines.

  2. Fuel transfers from the secondary tank when there’s a primary tank fuel decrease.

  3. Generators and boilers in the carrier affect overall fuel consumption during operations.

  4. Installing hardware is challenging due to the vessel’s larger tank size (15,000-20,000 liters or more).

  5. During ocean voyages, vessels face various atmospheric pressures and external/internal forces.

  6. Fuel sensor rods must withstand ocean pressures and remain intact throughout the journey.

  7. Wiring sensors and hardware through engines demands years of engineering expertise and knowledge.

Challenge: Software part Execution

Fluctuation: Due to the constant moving of the ship fluctuation of fuel is one of the major issues. To solve this problem, we need highly configured and powerful software with an algorithm detecting minor fuel level fluctuations.

Reading: As we know there are multiple tanks in a vessel. Each one consists of a different capacity of fuel. Now when the fuel is transferred from one tank to another the fuel level of each tank changes continuously. So to get the exact amount of fuel drain and refilled in the various tanks becomes a tedious task for any software.

Trakzee, our fleet management software, monitors ship fuel usage for engines, generators, turbines, and travel, including port stops. It checks the amount of fuel used by the specific engine, generators, and turbines of the ship. It also tracks the amount of fuel used while traveling into the sea and when the ship is stationary at ports.

Trakzee provides a detailed analysis and report of all the fuel-using systems onboard the ship. In short, it tracks every drop of fuel. The software algorithm of Trakzee is powerful enough to differentiate fuel level fluctuations effectively. It can identify fuel transfers between tanks and actual instances of fuel thefts.

Solution:

  • The Fuel Theft issue was solved thus it helped in the reduction of 30% of the cost of fuel.
  • Fuel consumption reports & data for every single trip can be easily obtained.
  • Provide an accurate amount of fuel consumed at any particular speed or engine rpm.
  • The constant change in the Fluctuation level is optimized.
  • Continuously monitoring helps in evaluating how much total fuel each engine, generator, and turbine can consume.
