An Asian Road is incomplete without the hand-driven three-wheeled vehicles. From the petition to ban the use of human pulled carriage to its modification into a scooter with a cabin or Cycle fitted cabins, a Rickshaw is a blended form of tradition to the Asian Community. They are present in different models over the length and breadth of the world. Especially in India, Auto rickshaws are not simply vehicles they are decorated with the driver’s notion about life and love.

Yellow, black, and green are not simply colors they fit into our brains with a definite form of Auto rickshaws. Simply as the human evolves the rickshaw evolved faster with the most recent modification of GPS-enabled E-Rickshaws.

Impact of COVID 19

The Unprecedented COVID-19 virus impacted the entire Economy. One small virus has changed the entire lifestyle. Bygone are the days when we used to wave hands to an Auto rickshaw, face constant rejection from an auto wale bhaiya, and bargain to reduce fares. These days, we are extremely conscious to move outside, especially when it comes to using a means of public transport.

The COVID-19 crisis helped people to innovate. The famous saying perfectly fits in “Necessity is the mother of Invention”. In the Recent Unlock phase, the E- rickshaw is the preferred mode of travel for many. The rickshaws are sanitized, mostly fitted with a separate screen from the driver to maintain social distancing, support e-payment, and are GPS enabled.

According to a study by Deloitte, 57% of Indians prefer to use ride-hailing services instead of using their vehicles. The population which is born after the 1980s even considers if they should buy a private vehicle or not. On-demand services like Uber and Ola for Taxi purpose is the trend for the country’s people to travel.

One attribute that makes the on-demand service of E-rickshaws distinct from the mega Uber industry is that it is cheap and cost-effective. The major population of Asia belongs to the middle class and Lower middle class which generally opt for rickshaws over cabs. These rickshaws provide door-to-door service. The existing model of the Jugnoo application works on the same principle. In one of the presentations Co-founder of Jugnoo, Samar Singla mentioned that “Every day there are about 30 million Auto rides in the country”.

Choosing GPS Enabled E-rickshaws

Especially During this time, GPS-enabled auto-rickshaw which work on an On-demand service has a great prospect. E-rickshaws can spot the exact location even if you are unable to mention accurate address details. GPS tracker locates your precise location and the Admin managing the service choose the nearest driver to drive to your location. This can minimize confusing talks of guiding the driver to your location.

It is a feasible mode of transport for single or small families as it ensures minimum contact during travel. Even if you are a single passenger the fare will be pocket friendly.

If you care about nature, you will probably end up choosing E-rickshaws. E-rickshaws produce a lower carbon footprint than a car. Moreover, the properties like low weight and slower speed cause less wear and tear to the Roads.

While E-rickshaws can serve as the best option to travel medium and short distances. This can be a huge income generator for the families who depend on the Three-wheeled vehicle for their livelihood.

Although COVID has hard hit the Mobility Industry as a whole. There is a silver lining for E-rickshaws in the near future. According to “COVID-19 Impact on the E-Rickshaw Market Potential in India: Estimating Demand for E-Rickshaw and its Components by 2024-25″COVID 19 has created a dip in the curve of Demand and optimistically the demand for E-rickshaws will rise in the next 5-6 years.

Summing up, the idea of GPS-enabled E-rickshaws would help the major population of people around the globe. This will serve as a source of income for many and can potentially cater to the demand of the rest of the population that depends on a rickshaw for daily commutation.
